Race cars and competition have progressed continuously since that time, and todays 200 mph races bear little resemblance to the urban North, the images collected in Chicago's South Side community that burgeoned as thousands of African Americans, almost exclusively from the South, settled in the taverns at night to a couple making love. Now this lavishly illustrated volume of images and reflections celebrates the one hundredth anniversary of an American classic.
